In the early 1960’s we entertained a reporter for the Associated Press Peter Howard,
author of a book of his experiences, and a member of Moral Re-Armament, a world-
wide movement founded by the Rev. Frank Buchman of Allentown, Pa.
Peter told us of the workings of the Associated Press. Apparently they have what they
call “rewrite” centers, his current one being in North Carolina. At the time he was
reporting on the civil rights movement and activities around the Atlanta, Georgia area,
and he said that when he read his own reports after they had been “rewritten”, he could
not recognize his own reporting.
