The U.S. Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union that would challenge the administration's National Security Agency warrantless illegal wiretapping of American citizens' communications, conducted in secret, without comment. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled that because the government had properly withheld information about the program by invoking a doctrine known as the "state secrets program", the plaintiffs could not show that their communications had been monitored, and therefore lackedn "standing" to bbring the case.
